The Astro-Zombies (English review)

The Astro-Zombies by Ted V. Mikels (Usa, 1968)
Running time: 92′ – Genre: Horror, Science Fiction

In the midst of space conquest, a mad scientist decides to create a superior race by transplanting knowledge into the minds of human guinea pigs: The Astro-Zombies. Both Americans and Soviets take an interest in the project, but both are unaware that the first experiment had unforeseen and terrifying effects….

Yet another derivative film of “Frankenstein” that revealed Ted V.Mikels and that sprays and sprays grindhouse from every frame in which the sloppy mise-en-scene, combined with the ridiculous budget, creates a weird, almost avant-garde Dadaist atmosphere. Ed Wood‘s lineage was this and it may not be gone yet. It obviously became a cult hit and was quoted in one of the most famous songs by the horror-punk group Misfits. It stars John Carradine and the legendary Tura Satana, the famous Varna of “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” by Russ Meyer . With 3 sequels all filmed 30 years later….
